Grab Life by the Love Handles
LEARN FROM THE PAST
CALCULATE THE FUTURE
I Can't Win Yesterday's Lottery
BUT
I CAN WIN IT TODAY OR TOMORROW
You can not change the past. The past; however is as important if not more so than your future. Whether we're talking about the bad day old gas station sushi you had for lunch, a miserable divorce you went through or a childhood that wasn't exactly a "Leave it to Beaver" episode.
Perhaps a tragic accident that wasn't your fault left you mangled for life.
If you don't learn from it, don't be surprised if you go through it again.
A miserable past is truly miserable if you walk away from it without analyzing what went wrong then figuring out how you can use that experience to see it coming again. Most people find it more convenient to BLAME someone else. Each negative impact you experience is a transforming experience if you choose to swallow your pride and gain skills from it. Many who are not to blame for their career ending accidents spend the rest of their life playing the victim in their own not so private pity party.
"I could have been a contender"
But that's only one option. Sometimes "Shit Happens". Yes, the hurt will always be there. I would be lying if I said it goes away. But the truth is, it only hurts if you choose to let it hurt. Yes sometimes (subconsciously) we want to feel the hurt because it brings us closer to the past and in some psychotic state of mind; we think we can go back in time and change things.
The only way to keep from wanting to let it hurt is to face the truth. The truth will allow you to move forward. If it means saying: "I was at fault" or "I let my guard down and got screwed", you need to finish the thought with "It's over and behind me now".
The other option is to learn from the past, let the wounds heal, get back in the game, then grab life by the love handles, and with a new attitude, screw every bit of jism out of it that you can. Tell your past: "I'm better and smarter now". Then bitch slap that bad memory down to the basement where it belongs, and go after the future like you're a first round draft pick.
