LOVE - The WHY of it

I  am intrigued by reading NDE testimonies. (Near Death Experiences).  A mass majority of those who crossed into the light via the tunnel say the same thing.  It was "such a feeling of LOVE".  Are we here to gain a conscious understanding of love?  Is this knowledge essential for when we cross back over? (To where ever we go)
